A HALIFAX select team will host Queensland Cup side Burleigh Bears at the Shay on Friday, October 21 (8.0) in a testimonial fixture for long-serving centre James Haley.
The fixture was confirmed as Haley, the former Ovenden junior who has completed a decade of service with his hometown club, launched his benefit year at the Shay last night.
The touring Bears, the former employers of Fax half back Ben Black, will tackle a side that will include a number of former Shay stars as well as Haley’s current teammates.
The evening will kick off at 6.30pm with a clash between Great Britain Masters and another Fax selection.
“It should be a great night,” said Chris Murgatroyd, Haley’s testimonial organiser.
Fax’s Supporters Awards were also presented last night, with hooker Sean Penkywicz picking up the Player of the Year title and full back Miles Greenwood scooping the prestigious Players’ Player crown.
Prop Jim Gannon took the Stan Hardy Memorial prize for top tackler, while young winger Jessjo Sheriffe was named Shooting Star and the under 23s’ Players’ Player.
Stuart Proctor was the under 23s’ Player of the Year with Chris Holroyde the Sportsman of the Year.
