The Halifax career of the former St Helens back rower Andrew Dixon ended before it began after the player signed a two year deal with Leigh before playing a game for the Shay outfit.
Dixon, who was in the final year of a three season deal with Salford, had joined Fax on a month-long loan after Christmas, an arrangement that was expected to roll on into a season-long stay.
But with just three days to go before his expected debut against Huddersfield at the Shay on Sunday (3.0), Dixon has been spirited away by last season’s big-spending Championship winners, who negotiated permanent release from Salford.
Ultimately, while Fax officials were unhappy at losing the player, they acknowledged there was nothing they could do.
“While we are extremely disappointed that Andrew will not be playing with us we, as a club, would never stand in the way of a player extending his career,” said Fax director Ian Croad.
“A two year, full time, contract gives the player financial stability.”
