Elland’s stop-start early summer continues this weekend with the Greetland-based side again without a fixture.

That means Karl Fairbank’s players will be denied the chance to build on last weekend’s 12-10 Division Two derby win over Ovenden, a result achieved despite the absence of 13 players and their coach because of the wedding of back rower Ben Fairbank.

Both sides had a player sent off - Cayci Pearson for Elland and Martin Mullen for Ovenden - with aa couple of sin-binnings addding to a fevered atmosphere.

“I saw them a couple of hours before the game and said a few words and I had a feeling then they might sneak it,” said Fairbank.

“They seemed pretty confident and cocky and I’m pleased for them.

“In the end, Ovenden have done me a favour because I’ve now got 10 lads who weren’t really in the reckoning who’ve put their hands up for the next game.

“It was a good result for us; we’ve got a five-point gap over Ovenden now .”
