Fax forced to delay selection for Cougars derby

Halifax coach Karl Harrison has delayed his team selection for Sunday’s Shay derby with Keighley (3.0) after Wednesday’s snowfall wrecked his training schedule.

But the former Great Britain boss, due to finalise his side tonight, hinted that both half back Anthony Thackeray and winger Rob Worrincy will come into contention.

The pair were omitted from the side that beat Workington 20-8 last weekend as Fax moved up to second on the Championship ladder.

“The snow meant we only had half a team there on Wednesday night; only the local boys and the Leeds lads could make it in,” said Harrison, who is likely to revert to using three ball players - Thackeray, Paul Handforth and Scott Murrell - against Paul March’s Cougars.

“We’ll assess things tonight, but I would imagine both Anthony and Rob will be there or thereabouts.

“By his own admission, Rob didn’t have a great game against Sheffield in round one, but leaving Thacks out last week was down to the conditions and the venue.

“We have a vision of how we want to attack this year and we want Thacks in that system.

“We want a running half back to complement Murrell and Handforth and he’s got that in his game, as has someone like Anthony Bowman.”

Harrison said he was expecting “plenty of huff and puff” from the Cougars, who are second from bottom with just a single bonus point after two games.

“They’re always dangerous,” said Harrison.
