Halifax winger Wayne Reittie feared he had “messed up” his chances of a new contract with the Co-operative Championship leaders.
Reittie, the former Batley, York and Dewsbury winger, has signed a one year deal for 2013, the fifth player to do so in the last fortnight.
But the 24 year old admitted he thought he had blotted his copybook permanently after he was sent off at Mount Pleasant last month for head-butting his former teammate Gareth Moore.
“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think ‘I’ve messed it up here before I’ve really got started’,” said Reittie, who served the last game of a four-match suspension in last night’s league fixture at Dewsbury.
“Halifax still haven’t seen my best rugby, and I didn’t want it to be over here before it had begun, which I thought it might be for a while.
“What happened at Batley wasn’t me; it was a moment of madness and I let my family down, my teammates and friends down and the club down.”
