Halifax have signed the Hull KR half back or hooker Connor Robinson on a permanent deal that will keep him at the Shay until the end of 2016.
Robinson made his Fax debut at Hunslet last month as part of the dual-registration agreement between the two clubs and has now played in the last five matches as Richard Marshall’s side have homed in on a top four league finish.
The Hull-based playmaker was particularly impressive in the win over Sheffield nine days ago, scoring two long range tries.
And with no new contract on the table for him at Craven Park next season, Robinson has opted to make a permanent move to West Yorkshire on an 18 month deal.
“We’ve been looking to strengthen our playmaking options for a while and to be able to do so with a player who already knows how we work and who really wants to play for us is a big bonus,” said Marshall.
“We’ve seen a fast, evasive, tough young player over the last few weeks and I’m excited about how we can develop that talent in the future.
“I know people criticise the dual-registration system, but without it Connor would never have had this chance and, in the end, might have been lost to the game.
“Now, he’s got the chance to build a career with us.
“I’m genuinely 50/50 whether he’ll end up being a hooker or a half back in the long term.
“But I think if we improve him as a half back, we’ll make him a better hooker too, because it will give him an understanding of what he’s trying to achieve earlier in the play.”
