FORMER Halifax back rower David Larder has joined the coaching staff at his old club Sheffield Eagles.

Larder, who enjoyed a three month testimonial in the autumn in recognition of a 16 year professional career, left the Shay at the end of last season after a year which saw him mix a playing role with a job on former coach Matt Calland’s backroom team.

Larder, who began his career with Keighley, joined Sheffield as a player in 1999 - under the tutelage of the current coach, Mark Aston - before going on to play for Rochdale, Leigh and Fax.

He arrived at the Shay in the autumn of 2004 and captained the club to victory in the 2010 Co-operative Championship Grand Final.
