Sean Long, the former Great Britain half back, has joined Featherstone Rovers as football manager.

Long, who has worked on the coaching staff at Wigan and Salford, is understood to have linked with the Post Office Road club until the end of the season.

Rovers’ backroom staff has undergone something of an overhaul in recent months, with long-serving head coach Daryl Powell joining Super League outfit Castleford.

Powell’s assistant, the former Leeds half back Ryan Sheridan, had been in charge on a caretaker basis, but had already confirmed he will quit at the end of the year.

Rovers suffered a shock Championship loss at Swinton last weekend.
