Featherstone have appointed Warrington’s youth development chief John Bastian as their new head coach.
Bastian, a former Rovers players, succeeds Daryl Powell, who left the Championship club 10 days ago to return to Super League with Castleford, and will take up a three-year contract on December 1.
Bastian, who joined Warrington from Leeds five years ago, will vacate his position at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in November and, in the meantime, caretaker coach Ryan Sheridan will be in charge of Featherstone to the end of the season.
“I had a good experience as a player here at Rovers in the late 80s and early 90s and I am relishing the challenge of being head coach,” Bastian said.
“I have built up a strong knowledge of the game during my time at both Warrington and Leeds. I have been fortunate to work under one of the best coaches in the world in Tony Smith for nine years and feel this experience will stand me in good stead.”
