SOX END SCALES SHAY TRIAL TIME

ON-trial winger Jon Scales has been released by Halifax.

The 26-year-old, a member of Bradford s title winning side in 1997, signed in at the Shay four weeks ago.

Scales was keen to earn himself a permanent return to top flight rugby leagueafter stints in rugby union with Racing Club Paris and Leeds Tykes .

A promising start - including three tries in successive reserve grade fixtures against Warrington and Castleford - earned him a start in the Super League clash at Wheldon Road a fortnight ago.

But an error-strewn display in Halifax s 26-12 defeat seems to have sealed his fate.

"I have let Jon go," said player-coach Gary Mercer. "He showed a good work ethic on the training field but he didn t have what I was looking for in a Super League winger."

Fans planning a trip to London for the Broncos match are reminded that a travel package is still available from Halifax Blue Sox.

Departing on Saturday, the trip includes three-star hotel accomodation, bed, breakfast and evening meal and costs 79.

The price does not include a match ticket and a few places are still available.
