Turf Talk: Which Royal Ascot horses form part of Garlick’s Goodies?

Yorkshire trainers excelled at the Royal meeting last year, bagging five winners.

John Quinn, Richard Fahey and David O’Meara all bagged a winner each but Mark Johnston led the way with two winners.

Johnston got off the mark this year when his Buratino was an impressive winner of the Coventry on Tuesday and anything he runs is worth a second look.

On Thursday he saddles his impressive York winner Yorkidding. He has gone up in the weights since then but has winning form over 14 furlongs which will be useful in the King George V Handicap.

Wetherby trainer Richard Guest has never had a winner at Royal Ascot but he is running Udododontu in the Britannia Stakes also on Thursday.

It’s one of the hardest races of the entire week to win but this horse, who won at the Dante meeting, has a bit of class and could just cause an upset at a massive price.

The Irish-trained Pleascach is my nap of the day on Thursday. This filly won the Irish Guineas over a mile and this extra four furlongs should suit her down to the ground.

Kevin Ryan has a speedy filly in his care called Ashadihan. She ran as green as grass in her only outing at Haydock but won in the style of a top class filly.

She goes for the Albany, the opening race on Friday, and looks one of Yorkshire’s best chances of success this week.

Johnston has a great record in Friday’s Queen’s Vase and he could run his filly Vive Ma Fille. She has only run over 12 furlongs so far but looks like a filly crying out for a longer trip. The two miles here look ideal. Sennockian Star is another to note in his chosen race on either Friday or Saturday.

Ryan Moore rode a hat-trick on the opening day at Ascot and I fancy him to finish the meeting in style on Saturday. Telescope won the Hardwicke Stakes by seven lengths under Moore last year and this has been his target again all year.

Malton trainer Richard Fahey hopes to have Moore on board his Tatislu in the Wokingham Stakes. This horse beat Muthmir in June last year on good to firm ground.

Muthmir came third in the Kings Stand Stakes on Tuesday and would be a short price if contending this race. Tatislu was 25/1 at the time of writing and is worth an each-way punt.
