Walsden will be trying to reach the Central Lancashire League’s Wood Cup final on Sunday - with the help of ex-Tod pro Qaiser Abbas.
The Scott Street club have brought in Abbas as their replacement pro for the trip to section-lower Monton and Weaste with their own paid man, ex-Halifax League player Richard Sladdin, still out with a hand injury.
Talented Pakistani Abbas, who now plays for Westhoughton CC, had a sensational 2012 for Todmorden with 766 runs and 96 wickets in Lancashire League games.
The number three batsman and left arm spinner has kept up the good work this summer with more than 50 wickets and a batting average of 50-plus in the Bolton League.
Abbas’s presence is likely to make champions Walsden strong favourites at Eccles.
Walsden last won the Wood Cup nine years ago, when they had Aussie Shaun Marsh in their ranks, and they also won it nine years before that when Trevor Bailey was skipper.
Barkisland are through to the Huddersfield League’s Twenty/20 quarter finals after beating Hall Bower on Tuesday.
Skipper Darren Robinson made 72 not out and Lorenzo Ingram 78 as Barkisland made 155 for two. Hall Bower scored 151 for two.
Elland are out, this week’s game having been halted by bad light with Slaithwaite nine for one chasing 145 for seven.
Barkisland, who won three out of three in their group, will next host Scholes on Tuesday.
Elland, meanwhile, will be playing Australian tourists Newcastle Junior Cavaliers at Hullen Edge on Tuesday (1.0).
