Barkisland’s Chris Williams almost single-handedly bowled his side into a winning position as they eased into the third round of the Sykes Cup following a seven wicket victory over Marsden.

Williams returned incredible figures of seven for 18 from 10 overs, four of which were maidens.

His efforts helped skittle Marsden out for just 136. In reply opener Alex Kaye blasted an unbeaten 65 as Barkisland romped home with plenty to spare.

Lightcliffe progressed into the third round of the Bradford League’s Priestley Cup courtesy of a 33 run success over Saltaire.

Rhys Jowett knocked out an impressive 64 to guide 2013 winners Lightcliffe to 219 for eight. They were held back by Saltaire’s Michael Eglin who claimed figures of five for 43.

Saltaire were then sent back for 186 after a battling opening stand of 77 between Rashid Ayub (72) and Adeel Nazir (48).

Nelson skipper Neil Thompson hit 61 as his side secured a 60 run Lancashire League success over Todmorden.

Thompson hit seven fours in an 87 ball stay, adding 68 for the fourth wicket with Chris Heap who ground out a vital 21 from 82 balls.

Stuart Priestley dismissed Thompson and then ran through the rest of the batting, taking six for 36 to bowl the home side out for 176.

Thompson was soon in the thick of it again taking a brilliant left handed catch at slip to dismiss danger man Simon Newbitt.

Todmorden slumped to 61 for three before being all out for 116, Elliott Gilford’s 24 the best of a disappointing lot.
