A real celebration of music

The Holme Valley Singers are celebrating 40 years and part of those celebrations brings the choir to Halifax Minster on Saturday, October 15 together with The Band of the King's Division.

This summer the choir performed two concerts in Italy alongside their hosts Italian choir Coro D’Alaleona.

They followed it up with a sensational sell out 40th Anniversary Concert at Holmfirth Picturedrome last Sunday - the event featured the return of the choir’s founder former Holmfirth HighSchool Music teacher Alan Simmons - together with professional musicians who have worked with them over the years.

The choir is now completing preparations for the last of their trio of events in Halifax.

The concert is entirely for charity, with proceeds going to the Army Benevolent Fund.

Choir chairman, David Brown said: “The choir feels privileged to have the opportunity of performing alongside our special guests for the evening, The Band of the King’s Division.

“This is the Army’s only professional Brass Band and is much sought after to perform across the country and worldwide.”

Last October the Band was a guest of the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band for a concert at Huddersfield Town Hall, which was a huge success.

The concert is on Saturday October 15, 7.30pm at Halifax Minster. Tickets are £12 and £8 and available from the Minster Shop, the Halifax Tourist Centre and Holmfirth Tourist Information.
