Cinema concert takes Andrew back to start

Yorkshire organist Andrew Nix goes back a long way with the Rex in Elland - in fact right back to its most recent opening night in 1988. The cinema itself is one of the oldest prupose built in the country and started life in 1912.

On Sunday (Nov 20)he returns for the latest organ concert which starts at 2.30pm.

Andrew began lessons at the age of ten and was soon winning local and national talent competitions.

Just at the stage he was turning professional, in 1985, readers of the ‘Organ Player’ magazine voted him “Most Promising Young Player.”

The following year he was appointed organist and musical director for Butlins Holiday Worlds and now is resident organist at the York Museum of Mechanical Music.

“Andrew goes back a long way with us “he played on our opening night and been back several times since. He has also helped me out with a couple of concerts at the Skipton cinema,” says Rex owner Charles Morris. “

Admission to the two hour concert is £5.50 and includes a film novelty and entry in a raffle.
