Eclectic mix of music for Doghouse birthday

The event, which is family friendly captures the essence of the Doghouse, crossing musical genres from electronica, rock, pop and folk.

“Over the years one thing we’ve always tried to do is take an eclectic approach to the line ups we put on,” says Michael Ainsworth, co-founder of The Doghouse.

“We don’t like to be tied to one particular style of music and that’s certainly going to be the case on March 12.

“It continues to be a challenge to promote live music in Halifax but we’ve had some notable achievements over the past 12 months, not least the successful introduction of a membership scheme which has helped give us some financial stability.

“Musically we’ve had many treats, not least recently with Hunck, Marry Waterson and David Jaycock, and March 12 promises to be a great day and a great way of experiencing the Doghouse as a first timer or as a regular.”

Headlining the event are Yucatan, whose epic performance of sweeping instrumentation, soaring choirs, and breathtaking vocals in the band’s mother tongue of Welsh, delivers shimmering celestial sensations by the bucket load!

Yucatan’s self-titled debut album, recorded in Snowdonia and mastered at Sigur Ros’s studio in Iceland, has received considerable praise from critics.

BBC Radio One’s Huw Stephens described the album as “stunning music from a special place”.

And the support line-up is strong too.

Jez Kerr - Manchester legend of A Certain Ratio, the post-punk band formed in 1977 in Wythenshawe, Manchester.

Fold - a funk and hip-hop influenced experimental four-piece.

Darkher - Singer and Spellcaster Jayn H Wissenberg. The band’s first gig of the year and possible last locally as they head to London and Europe.

Serious Sam Barrett - played at the internationally renowned South by Southwest music festival

The Bromleys - John, Jenny & James (father, daughter & son).

Regiment - hard rockers from Halifax.

Gareth Scott - a wonderful folk voice.
