Festival announces more performers

Arts for Brighouse, the charity group which is organising this year's Brighouse Festival has released more details of this year's event which takes place between October 22 and 29.

Classical singer Bridget Budge puts her contralto voice centre stage onWednesday, October 26.

Bridget appeared as Mamma Lucia with Scottish Opera and Sosostris (The Midsummer Marriage), Suzuki (Madam Butterfly) and Jocasta (Oedipus Rex) and recently, she sang the role of Erda (Das Rheingold) in Oxford Town Hall.

On Sunday, October 29 the festival welcomes Ahmed Harfoush (see main photograph). He is the premier jazz vocalist and entertainer in Egypt and has been performing around the world for more than 20 years.

He is the co-founder of the Cairo Jazz Festival and now based in London, Harfoush has performed in Paris, London, Berlin, Larnaca, Greece, Slovenia, Budapest, Dubai, Prague, Damascus with New York City’s Chris Byars Jazz Quartet and most recently in a concert with the Macedonia Philharmonic in Skopje. He will be leading a night of world music with his jazz band.

Other interesting items in the programme include a life-size Punch and Judy, a Ukelele play-along concert, a series of Hitchcock films, a talk on Robin Hood, performances from the Great American Songbook, a Brighouse history talk, a new comedy play performed by Foot of the Barrel the Brighouse-based production company, a string quartet recital, a classical guitar concert, a chamber choir recital, a play about Laurel & Hardy, a play about the Elephant Man, a folk music night and loads of children’s entertainment.

These join the likes of comedian Reece Brennan and singer Ryan O’Donnell, the star of touring stage show Sunny Afternoon, charting the life story of the Kinks
