From Glastonbury and Bestival to the Doghouse

Continuing the growing reputation of Halifax as a top live music venue, the latest instalment of The Doghouse offers a terrific double-headliner with The Loungs lining up alongside Peace And Love Barbershop & Muhammed Ali.

The Loungs have established quite a reputation for themselves since their debut release in 2007, and now the band are back in support of their newly released, third album ‘Short Cuts’.

They arrived on the scene amid a flurry of press, single releases and ramshackle, yet heartwarming, live shows. Numerous festival performances, including Glastonbury and Bestival, followed, alongside TV appearances and the soundtracking of peak-time drama on BBC1 and Channel 4.

Playing with the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Bill Ryder-Jones, The Courteeners, Jim Noir and Noisettes, the band have returned to gigging over the past 12 months in between sessions for the new album, including a headline slot at Gathering in the Woods festival at Fellfoot Woods last Summer.

‘Short Cuts’ is the bands first release since 2010’s ‘Big Wow’ and a return to the punchy, immediate, lo-fi guitar pop that populated their debut ‘We Are The Champ’.

PALMBA are a new band from the thriving DIY scene in Manchester. They are a four piece comprising of drums, keys, bass and guitars. There is only one rule for the foursome and that is: ‘members must own at least one leather Jacket, any more being a bonus’. They are all fans of the likes of QOTSA, Kid Congo, T Rex and anything from the Castle Face Records catalogue, these bands being the only thing that the band can agree on according to them.

PALBMA, as we’ll call them, are actually named after a Moss Side hairdressers owned by one Muhammad Ali, and play a specially prepared mix of psychedelic garage rock. The band recently toured with Manchester’s PINS throughout the UK and had a brilliant live session on BBC 6 with Marc O’Reilly.
