Little Theatre is stepping out

It is a warm and funny play about a group of women and a solitary man, who attend a weekly tap-dancing class in a run down church hall.

The women bring all kinds of emotional baggage to the sessions, along with little talent or co-ordination, for them it’s a chance to chat.

However, driven by their eternally patient instructor Mavis and grumpy pianist Mrs Fraser, their skills improve and begin to develop as a team, even being prepared to accept the challenge of performing at a local gala.

Director Gilly Walker says: “The cast has been having extra rehearsals because of the added element of the tap dancing. They have amazed myself and my co-director Gil Burns with the amount of skill they have acquired in such a short time – just as the women in the play.”

Six of the cast are new to the theatre: Yvonne Kniveton plays the pianist Mrs Fraser; Dianah Miller is Lynne; Cathy Shaw,Maxine; Gina Holmes, Andy; Christine Beales , Rose and Sean Kavanah, the lonely man Geoffrey.

Theatre audiences will be familiar with the rest of the cast who have excelled in recent productions – Trish Ellis is dance instructor Mavis; Rachel Peter is Dorothy; Phoebe Farrington, Sylvia and Phoebe Hillgarth, Vera

The play runs from April 18 -23 with a matinee at 2-30pm on the final Saturday and tickets are available online at www.hblt.org.uk or in person at Innovation.
