To coincide with the celebrations, Michael’s new instrumental album, ‘Fish’ has just been released on US imprint Tompkins Square and is already garnering praise.

To mark this important milestone in his life and career Michael Chapman is touring the UK with BJ Cole on pedal steel and Sarah Smout on cello.

The trio will be playing material from Michael’s incredible 50 year performing history as well as some new and experimental music.

BJ Cole & Chapman go back a long, long way to the early 1970s.

This stripped back trio also features Chapman’s favourite musical instrument, the cello, which many fans will recall featured strongly on his classic 1970 album ‘Fully Qualified Survivor’.

Chapman first became known on the London and Cornish folk club circuits in the late 1960’s.

Playing a blend of atmospheric and autobiographical material he established a reputation for intensity and innovation.

Signed to EMI’s Harvest label he recorded a quartet of classic albums.

LPs like ‘Rainmaker’ and ‘Fully Qualified Survivor ‘ defined the melancholic observer role Michael was to make his own, mixing intricate guitar instrumentals with a full band sound.

The gig takes place at Hebden Bridge Trades Club on Thursday, April 28.

Tickets from box office 01422 845265 (11am-6pm).
