Sci-fi stars head to Halifax

Halifax is to get it’s very own Sci-Fi convention with stars of both the big and small screen coming to town.

North Bridge Leisure Centre will be taken over by Daleks, Stormtroopers, Klingons and much, much more on Saturday, November 28.

Event Organisers, Red Cape Marketing, headed up by local man, Martin Ballard have been holding conventions and events across the country for several years.

Martin said: “I’ve been involved with events for several years now, and I’ve been holding a very popular one in Rochdale - but I thought it was time to bring the event home now, and show local people what we can do - and believe me, it’s going to be an event worth seeing!”

Headlining the day is none other than Red Dwarf’s ship computer Holly - actress Hatty Hayridge.

She first came into the series in Parallel Universe as Hilly the female opposite to Red Dwarf’s male computer Holly.

And she took over the role for the third, fourth and fifth series when actor Norman Lovett left to star in another show.

She will be supported by some of the original cast from the likes of Star Wars, Return of the Jedi and Doctor Who.

Visitors will see huge props from the films, and there will be lots of comicbook traders with items that are bound to take the young at heart back to their youth, as well as unique memorabilia and gifts you just can’t buy anywhere else other than the convention circuit.

Attendees will also be able to learn the ways of a Jedi and how to use a lightsabre thanks to Star Wars Episode One actor and stuntman, AndrewLawden.

Tickets are available to buy at www.hali-con.co.uk and people are encouraged to search for the event on facebook & twitter and sign up for regular updates and announcements.

“This is going to be one convention the people of Halifax won’t want to miss,” said Martin!
