Sounds of summer for band's new concert

Halifax Concert Band, conducted by Christopher Binns, went down a storm when they played at St Mark's Church, Siddal, last year.

Now the band returns to the popular venue to give a summer concert on Sunday, July 3 at 3pm.

Mr Binns said: “The band promises an entertaining concert with music of all ages.”

As well as featuring some favourite concert band marches, the programme will include arrangements of popular music including ‘The Lion King’, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’, ‘The Prayer’ and highlights from ‘The Pink Panther’.

Other musical items will include Huggens’ ‘Ragtime Suite’, Grundman’s ‘A Welsh Rhapsody’ and Christopher Binns’ ‘In Celebration’.

The band will also premiere its first performance of Ennio Morricone’s haunting and atmospheric theme from ‘Once Upon a Time in America’ - the 1984 hit Italian-American epic crime drama film co-written and directed by legendary Italian filmmaker Sergio Leone and starring Robert De Niro and James Woods.

Halifax Concert Band has been performing under its current name since 2001 and is the only adult wind band in the Calderdale area. It has around 40 members and plays a varied repertoire.

lTickets at £5 are available from church members or on the door.
