Success for Elland Silver Band at Festival of Brass

Elland Silver Band are celebrating a win after competing at the Bolsover Festival of Brass at Heritage High School in Clowne last week.

The group competed against 13 other bands in the first section and after a very slick and professional performance they earned the Best Entertaining Band prize and were placed first over all.

The band also entered the championship section which saw them compete against ten strong bands.

They were awarded a credible sixth place and it was the first time the band had competed in a championship section.

On Saturday October 29 the band will host the Kenneth Billington Memorial Concert at All Saints church Savile Road in Elland.

The event starts at 7.30pm and will feature the cornet and trumpet soloist of the Geneva instruments band, Ben Godfrey.

Ben graduated from the Royal Academy and went to work as professional freelance trumpet player with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. London Symphony Orchestra just to name a few.

He has also worked on West End Musicals such as Guys and Dolls, Fiddler on the Roof , West Side Story and has recorded film and television soundtracks from Harry Potter with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Channel four News Theme.
