Swinging it with the Sundowners

Following a recent sell out concert at St John's Church, Rastrick, local swing band, Sundown Swing, are to perform again in the Brighouse area at another St John's Church, this time the one in Clifton, on Friday, May 13 at 7.30 p.m.

This 15 piece band performs a wide selection of well-known instrumental swing classics, many made famous by Glenn Miller and Count Basie in the 1940s.

They also feature Frank Sinatra type vocals sung by popular singer Robert Gee, and female vocalist Diane Armer, who has recently joined the band, performs contrasting up-tempo numbers.

The band also features instrumental versions of popular music recently revived by Robbie Williams and Michael Bublé.

Sundown Swing has become very popular in the local area since they were formed only five years ago.

Last year they played to a full house at the prestigious Marsden Jazz Festival and were the only amateur group to appear as a headline act.

The band has also provided entertainment for spectators at both major cycle races in the area; the Tour de France and the Tour de Yorkshire.

As well as performing throughout the Calderdale and Kirklees area the band has performed at the world famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2014 and 2015 when they were welcomed by capacity audiences at St. Giles’ Cathedral on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile and at the Edinburgh Jazz Bar.

They will be returning to the Fringe in August this year when they will be privileged to perform again at St Giles’ Cathedral and will also appear at St Vincent’s Chapel and St. Marks Unitarian Church adjacent to Edinburgh Castle.

And, of course, they are delighted to be performing in Brighouse again.

Tickets for the concert at St John’s Clifton are £15 and include a two course meal (the first drink is free).
