Now read diaries of Anne Lister on internet

Anne Lister is among the remarkable women whose lives and work are celebrated by a new website.

The Shibden Hall landowner, businesswoman, traveller and lesbian’s diaries and travel notes can be read on

The free resource, from the West Yorkshire Archive Service and the University of Huddersfield, gives online access to 80,000 images from their archives and other sources.

The collection also includes letters written by the Bronte sisters and pioneering female aviator Amy Johnson.

Kay Barret, of West Yorkshire Joint Services’ archives, archaeology and trading standards committee, said: “It’s fascinating to read these women’s own words. History to Herstory will help all types of researcher to understand more about the history of women in the area.”
