Twenty six bands including the Lake Wobegon® Brass Band from Minnesota, USA will set to entertain the crowds in Brighouse over the first weekend in July at the 16th Brighouse Lions Festival of Brass event.

The contest in Thornton Square on Sunday sees the first band march off at 1pm and in addition to the nine Championship section bands, the other seventeen range from youth up to first section, all trying to lay their hands on the many prizes on offer.

This year will see a new Master of Ceremonies Graham Ward, keeping the crowds informed and the non-stop flow of the event - one of the strong features that makes the Brighouse contest such an attractive day out for the large numbers who turn out to spectate.

Adjudicators this year are Gordon Higginbottom, David Hirst and David Ashworth, all members of AoBBA.

The weekend gets off to a lively start on Friday evening at The Beck public house, just a half a mile out of town on the Bradford Road, with a “Beer & Brass” Evening featuring Kirklees Music Brass. The band’s programme of popular music begins at 7pm.

The Gala Concert on the Saturday evening takes place in Central Methodist Church and which always a special occasion, and attracts a full house.

This year Lake Wobegon® Brass Band are featured along with UK Champion Youth Band, Elland Silver presenting its successful programme from the Action Research Championships.

Special guest Philip Wilby will be featured in special brass and organ items.

Make sure you get to the West Yorkshire town and enjoy some fabulous music for Brass.
