CALDERDALE-born singing sensation Ed Sheeran has stormed the charts with his debut album.

The 20-year-old released ‘+’ on September 12 and on Sunday it went straight to number one.

The UK Official Charts company said it went into the top spot with sales of more than 100,000.

The album success continues Ed’s meteroric rise this year to become one of the UK’s top artists.

Ed has had two top 10 singles this summer, with A-team reaching number three in the charts and You Need Me, I Don’t Need You at number four.

Ed was born in Halifax and spent the early part of his childhood in Hebden Bridge before moving to Suffolk, where he first picked up a guitar and began writing aged 11.

On Sunday, Ed expressed his delight at reaching number one on social networking site, Twitter.

He wrote: “+ is officially the #1 album in the uk!! We sold 102,350 copies this week! Thank you all so much, can’t express how happy I am xxxx.”

He added: “No.1 album and 2 songs in the top 20! mental! Thank you all so much! X.”
