Few bands would cause Rough Trade to throw their rulebook out of the window - but, upon hearing the arresting sounds of London trio The Drink, the independent record store did just that, stocking an unsigned band’s release for the first time in recent history.
Newly-signed to Melodic, The Drink will play songs from their inventive debut album ‘Company’ when they appear at the next Doghouse gig at Arden Road Social Club (Archway Room) on Friday, June 26. The band’s members are singer and guitarist Dearbhla Minogue, bassist David Stewart and drummer Daniel Fordham.
The Drink have been praised for their ‘gloriously weird indie folk pop’ and the album was hailed as ‘one of the best debuts of the year’ by NME.
Dearbhla said: “People and places shape the sound - I get ideas from watching people do their thing,”
Also in the line-up will be Halifax three-piece The Orielles and The Stray.
Advance tickets are available from Revo Records in Halifax, Jumbo and ticketweb.
Tickets are £6 in advance or £7 on the door.
