Opera North will return to the Pennine Spring Music festival with a special performance in memory of a former member.

Justin Miles Olden, from Southampton, was just 38 when he died of meningitis last June.

Sixteen singers from Opera North will kick off the music festival with a performance at Heptonstall Parish Church on Monday May 30.

They are raising money for Meningitis UK, which promotes research and awareness of meningitis.

Singer Victoria Sharpe said: “Justin was a very kind and gentle man and the show on the Monday will be very special indeed.”

Acts fom across the country will turn out to perform at shows at Heptonstall Parish Church and Heptonstall Methodist Sunday school.

The performances will take place on five nights over six days up to June 4.

Those who could do with a little help before a performance can get help from a singing workshop, run by David Owen Lewis.

This will be held at the Sunday school on Tuesday May 31.

There will be a charge for some of the events. All tickets available on the door, or bookable in advance at Hebden Bridge or Todmorden Tourist Information Offices or www.quaytickets.com
