Pigs hog the stage for charity event

Forget last weekend’s Grand National horses, it’s pigs that are taking to the furlongs tonight.

Bets will be taking place at The Works, Sowerby Bridge, from 8pm.

Throughout the evening there will be six races where mechanical pigs will compete against each other to be the first to cross the finish line.

The Rotary Club, Sowerby Bridge, which organised the event, is looking for six corporate sponsors at £25 each - allowing companies to name a race and feature in this year’s race programme.

Organiser Olwen Edwards said: “If you haven’t been to one before, this is your opportunity. It’s fantastic fun - come and get involved.”

Tickets can be purchased at The Works for £7.50 and include supper.

Olwen said: “You can imagine what will be on the menu.”

All proceeds raised from the night will go to local youth projects across Calderdale.
