Bringing Broadway to the Halifax stage

Raring to dance and sing are the leading performers in HAOS’s latest production of the and stage hit Hairspray.

This high-tempo musical set in 1962 Baltimore, Maryland tells the story of plump teenager Tracy Turnblad’s dream to dance on The Corny Collins Show, a local TV dance programme.

When Tracy (Beth Smith)wins a role on the show, she becomes a celebrity overnight, and meets a colorful array of characters. She then launches a campaign to integrate the show. Hairspray is a social commentary on the injustices shared by parts of American society in the 1960s.

The show which kicks off at the Victoria Theatre, Halifax on Wednesday was a huge hit on both Broadway and the West End and features the hit songs I Can Hear The Bells, Good Morning Baltimore and You Can’t Stop The Beat plus many more.
