Halifax Amateurs’ Theatre Youth are putting final touches to their forthcoming production of The Phantom of the Opera, which starts on Tuesday.

Alex Hall (17), takes the role of the disfigured musical genius who falls in love with a young chorus girl, Christine Daae.

Phantom of the Opera is the longest running Broadway musical ever, and is probably the most well known and well-loved piece from the pen of Andrew Lloyd Webber. The hauntingly beautiful score includes Music Of The Night, All I Ask Of You, and of course The Phantom Of The Opera.

Chairman of HATY, Norma Bateman, said: “We knew we were taking on something very special, and very difficult for youngsters, but our cast have exceeded our expectations in every possible way.

“Phantom promises to be a memorable production for HATY, not only for the opportunity to perform such a legendary show, but like Miss Saigon last year, it is a show which will stretch the cast and provide them with the chance to achieve something they never dreamed possible.”

The show opens at the Halifax Playhouse on Tuesday, October 28 and runs until Saturday, November 1, when there is also a matinee.

Tickets are available from Playhouse box office (01422 365998), or from the HATY ticket hotline on 07745 257610.
