Since its inception Hebden Bridge Comedy Club has taken a pride and pleasure in giving a boost to newer comedians on their way up the circuit.
While the bulk of the successful shows at the Old Gate pub are given over to established acts, the middle slot is always given to someone still finding their funny feet. But that may not be the case on Sunday, September 14 when Steve Bugeja, below left, makes his Hebden Bridge debut.
Winner of the prestigious BBC Radio New Comedy Award last December he is now hard at work developing his own radio sitcom as well as supporting Russell Kane on his UK tour.
The gig on September 14 will also feature Duncan Oakley, who blends accomplished musicianship with a fund of off-the-wall-stories, Glaswegian funny man Raymond Mearns, right, and resident compere Martin Mor. Hebden Bridge Comedy Club starts at 8pm prompt. tel: 07874 152338.
l Two comedians familiar to Calderdale audiences won one of comedy’s greatest accolades at the weekend.
Phil Ellis and Mick Ferry were part of the team who won the 2014 Foster’s Comedy Award Panel Prize - formerly the Perrier Award - at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Mick and Phil, who appeared as part of the anarchic family show Funz and Gamez, are regulars at Hebden Bridge Comedy Club and Phil is compere at Comedy@The Works in Sowerby Bridge on Saturday at 8pm. For tickets tel: 01422 834821.
