Barely have the ivories stopped tinkling in Hebden Bridge following its annual Piano Festival (which takes place this weekend) than the town gears up for its next big show.

And this year the fourth annual Hebden Bridge Burlesque Festival (April 28-May 1) - run by local performers Heidi Bang Tidy and Lady Wildflower has surpassed itself earning funding from Arts Council England.

More than 33 burlesque artists are signed to perform in this year’s event which takes in various venues in the upper Calder Valley.

And the headline act is US performer Perle Noire, whose unique and dynamic style has earned her a spot with Dita Von Teese’s Strip Strip Hooray Tour and numerous awards from the Burlesque Hall of Fame Miss Exotic World Competition.

“Getting this funding is a massive deal for us, it has allowed us to fund four new shows this year and fly in international headliner Perle Noire,” say the co-organisers.

“To our knowledge, we are the first festival dedicated exclusively to burlesque to receive Arts Council support and we are delighted that we are leading the field in that regard.” Shows will be held at a number of venues including The Little Theatre and Ribbon Circus in Hebden Bridge, Mytholmroyd Community Centre and Todmorden Hippodrome.
