Written by Aphra Behn, one of the first female dramatists, it first saw the light of day in March 1677. King Charles II has been on the throne for seventeen years and the Restoration of the monarchy is re-established at the cost of Cromwell and the Puritans.

The stage will be alive with swashbuckling paraphernalia and sartorial excess of the Cavaliers.
