Everything you need to know about this year's Halifax Charity Gala including parade route

One of Halifax’s favourite events takes place this weekend.

Halifax Charity Gala is a fun-filled day of performers, stalls, games and more – all in aid of some brilliant causes.

This year’s event takes place on Saturday, kicking off as usual with a procession of floats and walking groups from a host of local organisations and groups.

Then there is plenty more fun to be had at the gala ground at Manor Heath Park.

Below is everything you need to know about the day.

Procession route and times

The procession sets off from Eureka’s car park at 11.30am and makes its way through the town centre along Church Street, Square Road, Horton Street, Union Street, Market Street, Old Market, Corn Market, King Edward Street, Commercial Street, Portland Place, Skircoat Road, Heath Road, Skircoat Green Road and Manor Heath Road.

A parking suspension has been agreed with Calderdale Council for the entire route.

The procession can take around an hour to reach the gala ground.

Roads will be closed while the procession takes place and there will be no access to the train station from around 11.30am for around 15 minutes.

Gala ground opening and finishing times

The gala officially opens when the procession arrives at Manor Heath Park, between noon and 12.30pm, but the ground is open from 11am, with most stalls and attractions fully staffed once the procession arrives.

Entertainment in the main arena normally draws to a close at 4.30pm and stalls pack up by 5pm.

In the main arena, Magpie Movers will perform at 1.30pm, followed by unicycle performers The Wheel Nuts at 1.50pm, historical re-enactment group Northern Militia at 2.30pm, Miss Stacey’s School of Dance at 2.55pm, flag dancers The Anchormen at 3.20pm, and The Wheel Nuts again at 3.45pm.
