It’s coming home… Goth returns to its birthplace of Leeds

An alternative heritage of Leeds with Goth music

Many consider Goth to have come out of West Yorkshire at the beginning of the 1980s with the likes of Sisters Of Mercy, March Violets, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, Three Johns, 1919, The Elements, Danse Society and Southern Death Cult.

The Merrion Centre hosted an underground club called Le Phonographique which was a focal point for those into alternative music and played Goth as it developed from post-punk acts such as Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus and The Cure.

Over forty years on and the scene is still thriving with original and more recent bands playing Leeds, this month you can see critically acclaimed Goth covers band Sanctum Sanctorium play a live show at Lending Room with a full set of Goth classics. This will be the last date on their current tour which has included large venues up and down the country so this intimate show will be a special treat for fans of anthems such as This Corrosion, Spellbound, Love Like Blood and She Sells Sanctuary.

The live show will be followed by Mutant Movement’s afterparty, free to those attending the gig. Expect everything from Glam Rock thru Punk, Futurist and Alternative 80s, keeping you dancing until 2am.
