Thirteen Calderdale locations that have been used in television and film
For some there’s nothing more exciting than being sat at home watching a film or TV programme and spotting your town in the heart of the action.
Calderdale has become a hub for film crews to use as the backdrop for a number of TV dramas and well known films. With Sally Wainwright favourites Happy Valley along with the upcoming Gentleman Jack being set and filmed in the borough, and a new series of Ackley Bridge, based in Halifax, to look forward to this year, here are just a few of the locations in Calderdale to have been featured on our screens.
Holdsworth House in Holmfield has been visited a few times by film crews over the years. An episode of series two of Ackley Bridge used the location and the venue featured heavily throughout the second series of Last Tango in Halifax.
The area around the block of flats off Tuel Lane in Sowerby Bridge featured in an episode of Ackley Bridge series two. Most notably though its where Catherine Cawood discovered the body of Lynn Dewhurst at the start of Happy Valley series two.
In the past, Last of the Summer Wine has paid a visit to Brighouse. Filming has taken place for the comedy series over the years at Cromwell Bottom, Brighouse Canal Basin and Thornton Square in the town centre.
