Two men and a Land Rover off to Gibraltar

Hebden resident and actor Dan Carey, 44, is supporting Halifax born actor and pal Dan Coll, 53, on the Middle Aged Road Trip - two men, a 1960s Land Rover, startingoff on a £10 tank of diesel to reach Gibraltar in ten days.

The middle aged men departed from the town centre on Sunday and were given £50 from the lovely locals of Hebden towards the cost of the expedition.

Along the route: Manchester; Dover; France and Spain, the actors will be joined by a host of celebrities endorsing the challenge in aid of Samaritans - a charity close to Dan Coll’s heart after recently suffering from depression.

Dan Coll, who has recently appeared in the film Northern Soul, said: “Aside from the mad cap daftness of it all, there is a serious motive behind the driving force of our adventure.

“The Samaritans really helped me when I was at my lowest ebb - it’s a fantastic charity and we want to show our support,” he said.

Friend Dan Carey, who turns 45 on the evening of their grand finale production, said the trip is every middle aged man’s dream - and now he’s offically there!

“We’ve hardly slept and have eaten very little. The support we’ve received has been overwhelming,” he said.

Yesterday, four days into the Middle Aged Road Trip, the actors were joined by fellow actor Dean Sullivan, Brookside’s Jimmy Corkhill, as they travelled to Barcelona, Spain.

Speaking on the road to the Hebden Bridge Times, Dean said: “It’s a great cause - I hope they make it into a TV show.”

The actors jaunt will cluminate in Gibraltar with the duo’s grand finale show at the country’s Mackintosh Theatre on October 15 where the actors will be joined by special guests in a performance that incorporates singing, cooking, comedy and a look-back on their “every middle aged man’s dream” adventure.

The Middle age road trip has been endordsed by a host of celebrities including former Coronation Street star Kevin Kennedy, X Factor star Frankie Cocozza, and others.

The duo raised £200 after cleaning BBC Blue Peter presenter Peter Purves’ house. In Paris, they performed with singer Victoria Aitken. Presenter and actor Paddy McGuinness lent his vocals to the cause as the trio busked on the streets of Dover. To donate justgiving.com/middleagedroadtrip
