Community remembers little Maia
Maia Rose Elizabeth Swales-Dawson was only 18 months old when she passed away, leaving her family devistated. To show their respects at this difficult time, the community held a fundraising event at Todmorden Climbing Skool, Vale Street.
The Climbing Skool opened their doors providing bouldering and climbing as well as extra rope and equipment for a small charge that went to Maia’s family.

Hide AdLocal companies showed their support for the fundraiser by providing hot drinks and a food van, facepainting, home-made baking, and even a tuk tuk journey around the local area, making the day special in honour of Maia’s memory.
Georgina Lindley, who organised the event, described the day as “perfect” with “lots of support from local people.”
Georgina also appealed to local people on social media asking for donations towards raffle and tombola prizes, in order to raise more money at the event. She was astounded at the response she recieved.
“We got a lot of prizes donated and I want to thank the community for their support. The steady flow of people throughout the day made it lovely,” she said.
All of the money raised on the day went to the Princess Maia Memorial fund which was set up by her family, in the hopes that they will be able to purchase a memorial bench for the little girl.
