Crowds lined the streets as Lamplighter parade illuminated Todmorden
The Lamplighter Festival in Todmorden proved a hit in its fourth year, bringing together about 500 professional and amateur artists and street performers for a parade through the heart of the town.
Weeks of art workshops produced an array of lantern-lit artworks which were manoeuvred and carried through the streets. Among the eye-catching creations was a giant polar bear, an owl, a horse, a towering robot with pincer claws and a fire-breathing dragon.

Families were also entertained by fire performers and street bands, including a 30-strong samba ensemble.
Andrew Kin, artistic director at a not-for-profit organisation, Handmade Parade, which staged the event, said: “It was the biggest turn out for a winter event we have had. It’s really been embraced by the town.”
