Rescue service's water warning
Figures from the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service reveal there has been one fatality, five people injured and 27 rescued from water in Calderdale since 2011.
District Commander for Bradford, Martin Speed, said: “We would always discourage people from going into the water themselves unless they are confident that it is safe to do so.

Hide Ad“It would appear in these circumstances that the rescuers made the right decision in a split second but we would encourage potential rescuers to make sure that they consider the risks to themselves.
“This illustrates how open water can look inviting and harmless when the sun is shining, but it can be lethal should you get out of your depth or get caught in strong currents.
“The school holidays are on the horizon, which means young and old will be out and about enjoying leisure time near waterways, so please take a moment to read our top tips on water safety.”
