The multi-award winning TV series Happy Valley, which is filmed and set in Calderdale and which stars Sarah Lancashire and Siobhan Finneran, has added three more gongs to its haul.

The BBC One drama picked up the coveted Filmed in Yorkshire award at the Royal Television Society Yorkshire Awards, while Sally Wainwright scooped the Writer award and its star, Sarah Lancashire, won the Actor award for her performance as strong-willed West Yorkshire police sergeant Catherine Cawood.

The judges said: “This was pure unadulterated Yorkshire, warts and all. The budget was used to great effect and the series showed exceptional storytelling.”

Another big hitter at the ceremony at The Royal Armouries in Leeds was the Bafta-award winning mini-series Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, which was also positively received by critics.

Toby Haynes fought off stiff competition to take home the Director: Fiction award for his work on the BBC One series.

David Roger took home an award for the production design, while Milk VFX collected the Animation and/or Visual Effects award for its work on the show.

Housewives’ favourite James Martin picked-up the Presenter award for Home Comforts at Christmas (BBC Bristol for BBC One). Judges said the programme “showed polish, audience appeal and high production values.”

Christine Talbot collected this year’s Reporter award for her work on ITV’s regional news programme Calendar (ITV Yorkshire) while Mark O’Brien of local TV broadcaster Made in Leeds was named the One to Watch.

This Is England ’90 (Warp Films/Big Arty for Channel 4) –which looked at rave culture and the 1990 Fifa World Cup – picked up the coveted Drama award.

Peter Kay: 20 Years of Funny (Shiver for BBC One) won in the factual programme category, while Forced Marriage Cops (True Vision Aire for Channel 4) collected the Made in Yorkshire award and Christmas Flooding – On the Aire (for local broadcaster Made in Leeds) won the News Report category.
