Calderdale College is launching an exciting 2 year “Rugby Academy” course in September 2017, aimed at individuals who wish to combine their studies alongside improving their rugby skills. This course will allow students to study for a BTEC in Sport and open the door to many exciting career opportunities within the sports industry such as Coaching, Nutrition, Therapy and Fitness Instruction.

The College has also partnered with local professional clubs including Halifax Rugby League Club and Huddersfield Rugby Union Club, which means that their teams will have an active involvement in the course activities and provide practical experience for students allowing them to learn first-hand from professionals through the field sessions, strength and conditioning programmes and also through professional analysis.

In order to develop better all round skills, maximise playing time and fit into the regional calendar of games, students will have the opportunity to participate in all three rugby codes – Rugby League, Rugby Union and 7’s.

Craig Waterworth, general manager of the Inspire Centre at Calderdale College, from where the course will be based, said of the new course; “This is a truly unique course that matches students’ love of rugby with real vocational skills that employers value, so for all keen rugby players it is the perfect next step in their education.”

As recognized leaders in employer engagement, Calderdale College also strives to provide students with the skills that employers are looking for. The structure of this course will include working on the ‘softer’ yet equally important life skills such as presentation and workplace conduct that employers value.

Calderdale College would like to invite everyone interested to attend the Experience Day on Friday 24th February 2017 to be held at their fabulous facilities at the College’s Inspire Centre. This fantastic opportunity will allow attendees to get a true feel for the course content and find out more about this unique course in advance of applying for a place in September.
