Given that you're probably here to find out when the series comes to Netflix, we're going to assume you haven't seen it yet. As such, this will be a completely spoiler-free article.

Who's in the cast in series 5?

Cillian Murphy is of course back as Tommy Shelby; In an interview with The Guardian ahead of the series' debut, he hinted at what to expect from Tommy in this new outing.

"You see the psychological trauma that Tommy suffers throughout the new series, particularly,” he said.

"I really don’t identify with him. He’s a total stranger to me, but he’s the only character I’ve returned to in my career.

"He is a relentless character – he never sleeps, he never eats – his ambition is limitless. So you need to be able to embody that.”

Other recognisable faces will be returning are Helen McCrory (Aunt Polly),  Paul Anderson (Arthur Shelby), Sophie Rundle (Ada Shelby), Kate Phillips (Linda Shelby) and Natasha O'Keeffe (Lizzie Stark), as well as Aidan Gillen and Jack Rowan (as father-and-son Aberama and Bonnie Gold).

One person who won't be returning is Joe Cole, as his character, John Shelby, was killed by gang members working for mobster Luca Changretta in series four.

Cole told Digital Spy his work load was the reason behind him leaving the popular drama.

"I was just busy doing other projects. I wouldn't have been able to do Black Mirror, I've got a bunch of films that I'm trying to do.

"I thought it was my time to go, give other people an opportunity for their parts to grow. I thought it was the right time to pass the baton on."

Who is new in the cast for series 5?

The Hunger Games' Sam Claflin joins the show as real-life fascist leader Oswald Mosley in series 5.

Claflin said: “From Steven Knight’s writing to the consistently brilliant production, I couldn’t feel more privileged to be invited to join this iconic show.”
