Fylde 3-2 Halifax: We deserved at least a point, says Heath

Tom Denton put Town ahead before Caspar Hughes struck back immediately for the hosts, who went in front after the start through Danny Hone’s own-goal.

Hone himself got Town’s equaliser but Bohan Dixon scored the winner with 10 minutes to go.

Heath said: “We deserved something from the game. I think we definitely deserved a point. We had the better chances in the game, we’ve hit the crossbar twice.

“The disappointing this is the goals (conceded). We made bad choices at times.

“It was important we got the first goal and then to concede straight from the kick-off, that’s the most disappointing one.

“But the players gave everything. The effort and the desire was there.”

Heath was frustrated that Fylde equalised so quickly after falling behind to Denton’s goal.

“I thought we started really well,” he said. “We had a plan and we knew that if we let them play, they would, and they’ll try and dominate possession.

“We were coping with them and forcing them to play a lot of long balls, which they don’t want to do.

“Dents (Tom Denton) got the goal, and deservedly, because we’d knocked on the door two or three times before.

“Then from the kick-off we just totally switched off, allowed them to come through us instead of getting them to go backwards.

“We don’t get it clear and then it’s in the back of the net. That’s disappointing.”

The Town boss was also disappointed at the mannaer of Fylde’s winner.

“We made it 2-2 and then you think to yourself ‘2-2 away from home may not be a bad result’,” he reflected.

“And then we gave a poor goal away again because we didn’t squeeze the ball.

“It came from a throw-in, we don’t come out quick enough as a team, the play a bit and then Honey (Danny hone) doesn’t come out to the ball quick enough.

“He was waiting for the lad to switch it sideways, he doesn’t, he hits it and it goes through his legs into the bottom corner.”

Heath said new loan signing Keil O’Brien was considered for a starting place at Fylde, and is now hoping the likes of Liam King or Nathan Hotte may return from injury in time for Monday’s home game with Harrogate.

He added: “Obviously the boys are disappointed but we’ve said to them to get their chins off the floor.

“We’ll see if we can get any players back for Monday because one of the things we were concerned about was that we didn’t have a defensive midfield player, and that caused us problems.

“Hibbsy (Jake Hibbs) and Jordan Sinnott were magnificent, backed up by Peni (Richard Peniket) dropping back at times, but it’s difficult when you don’t have a defensive midfield player when you come to places like this.

“Hopefully we can maybe, maybe get one back for Monday but we’ll have to see.

“It’s an important game on Monday to try and get back to winning ways and go back up the table again.”
