Brighouse go five clear

Brighouse Town took a five point lead at the top of the Evo-Stik NPL's First Division North, for 24 hours at least, after a fine 2-1 home win over Farsley Celtic last night.

The introduction of Tom Haigh for Daniel Bunch after 52 minutes made the difference for Paul Quinn’s side.

They were trailing to a goal from ex-Halifax Town player Richard Marshall after 31 minutes in front of a healthy crowd of 323 at Hove Edge.

A minute after coming on, Haigh’s cross was deflected into his own goal by Chris Howarth for the equaliser.

Haigh then got the winner with 12 minutes left, mopping up the rebound after Ruben Jerome’s effort had been parried by the ‘keeper.

James Walshaw, another former Shayman in the visitors’ ranks, was red carded with three minutes left.

Many of the other teams in the division are in action tonight, including second placed Bamber Bridge at home to Burscough.

Brighouse’s next game is away to 12th-placed Colne on Saturday.
