Calderdale TV shows to look forward to in 2021

With film crews spotted in the borough last year, here are the Calderdale TV shows to look forward to in 2021.

Exact transmission dates are unavailable in a number of instances – if a show is being filmed this year it may not air until later – but some details can be reported.

Historical drama Gentleman Jack, starring Suranne Jones is due to appear back on the BBC after filming in Halifax’s Shibden Hall.

The Sally Wainwright drama based on the life of Halifax diarist Anne Lister drew in millions of viewers when it aired on BBC One back in 2019.

Filming is currently taking place at locations across Yorkshire for the second series, with plans for it to air later this year.

Channel 4 school drama Ackley Bridge is set to return for its fourth series this year.

The programme follows staff and students at the school in a fictional Yorkshire mill town.

The latest series began filming at the beginning of 2020 but due to the coronavirus pandemic it was postponed and resumed later in the year.

Yorkshire continues to be a draw for film and television makers.

Filming for Leeds television writer Kay Mellor’s fourth series of The Syndicate was held up last year but viewers can expect it to watch it some time this year.

All Creatures Great and Small also returns for a second series on Channel 5.

Films include The Duke, starring Helen Mirren and Jim Broadbent, along with the eagerly anticipated Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, the big screen adaption of the story about a Yorkshire teen who wants to be a drag queen.
