Eagle-eyed Halifax viewers will have spotted a familiar face in this year’s ASDA Christmas TV advert.

Halifax actor Neil Hurst appears in the commercial which premiered this evening and is based on the hugely popular film Elf, starring Will Ferrell.

Using footage from the 2003 film, it follows Buddy the Elf as he undertakes a trial day in the store in the run-up to Christmas.

The advert was shot by multi-award-winning director Danny Kleinman who has designed every title sequence for the James Bond movies since GoldenEye in 1995, except for Quantum of Solace.

Neil – who delighted audiences at the annual panto at Halifax’s Victoria Theatre for a decade – took to Twitter to share his joy at being in the Christmas ad.

He posted: “I’ve always wanted to be in a Christmas Commercial and I nailed it this year… and in a great one too!

“Merry Christmas everybody.”
