Before the crisis hit UK shores earlier this year there were plans for two TV dramas to begin filming in the hills of the borough.

The first was the fourth series of Channel 4 drama Ackley Bridge.

The series, which follows staff and students of Ackley Bridge College, a diverse school in a fictional Yorkshire mill town, managed to begin filming at the start of the year and had a few weeks under its belt before production was stopped.

In a statement back in March, Northern Talent and Expressions Drama said: "Ackley Bridge has been stood down with immediate effect. We have been told to expect a minimum of a two month hiatus, but promised the series will be back."

The series was due to hit our screens in September but filming is yet to be completed.

When the series does return it will be a little different to the past three series. Previously episodes have been an hour long but for series four they will fill a half an hour slot over 10 episodes.

Over the past three series filming has taken place across the borough with the school scenes filmed at the former St Catherine's Catholic High School in Holmfield.

Series two of Sally Wainwright's period drama Gentleman Jack was due to be filming in Halifax over the summer.

The start of filming for the series, which was based on the life of Halifax diarist Anne Lister, was delayed back in March.

An update was given by actress Gemma Whelan, who plays Anne’s younger sister Marian in the series, to when filming may begin.

Speaking to Digital Spy she said: "I do know that we were meant to start filming in June, and of course because of the current situation, that has currently been pushed to September and we all hope that may happen.

"But we've all just got to be flexible and open and wait until the right time when everyone's safe and it's ok to get on with things."

Filming for series one took place at Shibden Hall in Halifax, Anne Lister's ancestral home, as well as other locations across Calderdale.

Gentleman Jack was due to air on BBC One, HBO in the US, in Spring 2021.
